John Boddy known as 'Happy Jack' worked in the family foundry until he set up the Rivercraft (Boroughbridge) Co Ltd in 1935. He specialised in building and refurbishing pleasure cruisers. |

1939 |
'Happy Jack' began bulding ships lifeboats for the war effort and due to difficulties obtaining supplies of sawn boatskin larch he installed the companys first horoziontal frame saw.

1946 |
By the end of the 2nd World War with the demand for pleasure boats was greatly reduced so 'Happy Jack' installed more frame saws and developed the business to become a public sawmill. For over 30 years his company converted both native and tropical hardwood logs for many leading importers, built farm trailers, manufactured and erected steel framed buildings and bred livestock.

1975 |
Son Frank Boddy returns home and runs John Boddy's with the help of 'Happy Jack'.

Happy Jack died in 1985 and Frank continued to expand the company.

Frank Boddy forges ahead with the company. When developing the company Frank concentrated on the supply of Temperate Hardwoods. The company has now set up reliable supply of Certified Tropical Hardwoods. John Boddys grading and resaw lines have provided an invaluable service to customers to ensure their production has optimum timber supply.

2006 |
New development in 2004 now allows John Boddy's to offer 'from the round log to the machined profile' establishing a machining faculty offering PAR and mouldings to customer specification. |
